Schindler Elevator

I am in charge of the building and grounds at a church.  We had a contract with Schindler Elevator to do annual preventive maintenance and the State required test on the hydraulic valve.  For some time, the sump pump in the elevator pit wasn't working.  We asked for a service call so they could lock out the car on the first floor while a couple of us replaced the pump.  The tech never did lock anything out, he just held the car on the first floor using the key.  Never pushed the big red button in the pit.  Anyway, the tech was onsite for 2 hours.  We received an invoice for $5270.00.  Yes, that is correct.  What followed was more than a year of trying to get this straightened out.  It didn't seem to matter that our contract stated any work outside of the work covered in the contract would be $250/hr.  Local manager finally said all charges are forgiven, but received more invoices after that.

On top of all that, our rod packing had been leaking, and their guy was neither adding fluid nor recording any issue.  We ended up paying another company to replace the packing even though the packing replacement should have been covered in our original contract.  Schindler claimed not covered unless State inspector said we needed to replace it, but State inspector wouldn't have known about the bad leak because there were no records of any fluid being added.  Those records are required.
