So I just kicked a prospective drywall installer out of my house. Argued for 30 minutes about various things. First was tapered edge drywall. Even after showing him a piece, he had no idea what I was talking about. He tried to tell me someone dented it. I said, no, that is the way it was made. He said he has being doing drywall for 40 years and never heard of it. Second argument was about 1/2" and 5/8" meeting at an outside corner. He said one will stick out further than the other and one edge will have a dent. Even after demonstrating with 2 pieces of wood(one thick, one thin), and showing that it would produce 2 flat edges, he insisted it wouldn't. I said "You need to leave".
Also, he came to measure for a drywall quote and didn't bring a tape measure. Looked like he hadn't showered in a few days. Obviously never been to a dentist. This is what Home Advisor matched me up with...
Started texting still arguing, then gives me a quote. He never did measure anything.
After not being able to find any information about this company that has been in business for 40 years, I Googled the address that is listed on HomeAdvisor. It is an extended stay hotel. I will be calling HomeAdvisor tomorrow, and possibly contacting the police. He obviously knew nothing about drywall, so I am now wondering if there are other motives to get into peoples' houses.
I called HomeAdvisor, and there is very little checking done on their companies. This company is not an LLC or incorporated, so there are no state filings. There is no licensing required for a painter/drywaller, so no check there. They do not require the contractors to have insurance, so no check there. Supposedly a background check was done on the business owner(the guy's wife).
